Reading for today
Old Testament: 2 Samuel 1, 2, 3
New Testament: Acts 1
Thoughts from today’s reading
2 Samuel 1:6-16. King Saul had been fallen in battle and a young man from the war front came to tell David he had killed Saul. He was hoping to be rewarded because Saul was David’s enemy, however he got judgement instead.
As believers, we must be careful not to carry stories of another’s fall to anyone we feel has a problem with the fallen one. God frowns on whisper’s that bring separation. Instead we must seek to cover one another in love.
2 Samuel 2:6-10. Abner and Saul’s son had a fall out and Abner vows to ensure David becomes king. Abner and the people of Israel were aware of the word of the Lord to make David king, yet they were the ones still fighting and opposing David from that position until this point.
When God declares it is time for you to take your place, everyone who has opposed you will become champions to bring you to your rightful place.
Acts 1:8-11. Jesus promised to send the Holy Spirit to the believers so that we could effectively declare the good news with the power to back it up. As He ascended into heaven, the angels told the disciples that He would return to the earth in the same way.
We should never forget the coming again of the Lord to the earth.
Prayer
1. Father, grant us your children the awareness of how much you hate us reviling others. May we rather practice praying for another who has fallen and covering them in love. You said we should not even rejoice when those we consider our enemies fall, because vengeance belongs to You and not to us. Thank you Lord that as we practice this and please you, you will cause even our enemies to be at peace with us.
2. Thank you Jesus for sending us your Holy Spirit who empowers us to live a life in a manner that pleases God, and also gives us the power to speak your message backed by signs. We say today Maranatha – come Lord Jesus, and we will keep looking and preparing for your return to the earth.
