Reading for today
Old Testament: Psalm 99, 100, 101
New Testament: 1 Timothy 3
Thoughts from today’s reading
Psalm 101:3-4. Our resistance to wickedness starts from what we allow our eyes to observe. There must be a conscious effort not to sit and watch that which is evil, worthless, perverse and unwholesome. Guarding our eyes will enable the cleanness of our heart.
1 Timothy 3:1-13. At some point, the need to lead in a greater capacity will come to us. The minimum requirement for our leadership role in the kingdom of God is the ability to lead well in our homes. It is no wonder it is said, charity begins at home.
Prayer
1. Heavenly Father, just like Job resolved that his eyes would not behold that which would make him go astray (Job 31:1), we resolve to keep our eyes pure. May we be quick to observe what is good and discount what is evil. We set our eyes on your word daily so that our thoughts will line up with yours. Thank you Lord for grace to keep our eyes and hearts pure.
2. Lord, you consider the family to be the place where we launch to greater endeavours. We therefore pray for our family and home that it will be filled with your peace. Give us grace to order our family aright, let there be love and respect, let there be obedience and submission, let there be understanding and truth. May our homes be what you intended them to be and a strong reflection of our Christian faith. Thank you Lord for helping us to strengthen our homes.
