Reading for today
Old Testament: Psalm 129, 130, 131
New Testament: Titus 3
Thoughts from today’s reading
Psalm 130. The Lord is faithful to hear the cry of the one who reaches out to Him from the depths of sin and despair. He is the one with the power to forgive in heaven and on earth, and by His mercy cleanse us from everything that would destroy our soul.
Titus 3:1-8. The kindness and love that we have received from God through Jesus Christ should be the influencer of our behaviour towards others. If we truly understand these things, we will be peaceable, gentle and ready to do all good works to profit men, irrespective of their behaviour towards us.
Prayer
1. Thank you Father that you are the one who forgives and cleanses us from all sin when we cry out to you. You did not create us to live a life consumed by sin and darkness which leads to perdition, but you want us to live in light and freedom which you designed for man. You know our frame and when we stumble and fall, you grant us mercy to rise again. We give you all the praise through Jesus Christ our Lord, amen.
2. Lord Jesus, you gave the parable of the servant who was forgiven much yet could not extend mercy to others. We pray that by your Spirit you remind us of the great love, kindness, forgiveness and mercy you have bestowed on us. May we ever be grateful and respond in kindness and good works to our fellow man. Thank you Lord for helping us fulfil this purpose in Jesus’ name, amen.
