Reading for today
Old Testament: Proverbs 3, 4, 5
New Testament: Hebrews 7
Thoughts from today’s reading
Proverbs 3:13-18. Men seek riches for the outcome of a better life and not just to amass it to look at it. Wisdom however gives us this outcome of a better life but also fills us with riches and a long life to enjoy them. Our desire for wisdom from God should far outweigh any other desire.
Hebrews 7:25-28. The earthly priesthood was run by men who were limited by death, and also their own personal sin and sin nature. However, the new priesthood of Jesus Christ now covers us on earth, but also in heaven. He is limitless because He has gone beyond death and ever lives to intercede for us, He has abolished sin and the sin nature and in Him we have forgiveness and cleansing. We should continually come to our heavenly High Priest and receive the help we need to live victoriously on earth.
Prayer
1. Father, I come to you to seek the wisdom I need today. Lord I pray that my life is filled and immersed in your wisdom. As you grant me wisdom, your word has promised that long life follows, riches follow, pleasantness follows, peace and happiness follow. In 1 Corinthians 1:30, you said Jesus Christ has become wisdom for us, so I pray to understand and apply the wisdom I have access to in Jesus Christ. Thank you for hearing me and helping me today.
2. Lord Jesus, I come to you because you are my High Priest who is limitless. You are the one who has saved me to the uttermost so I receive your help today to live above the challenges of this world and the deceitfulness of sin. I thank you for giving me the grace to serve God in a good conscience and to live a life that pleases God and benefits my fellow man. Thank you Lord Jesus for ever living to make mention of my name before the Father in prayers of intercession.
