Reading for today
Old Testament: Songs of Solomon 2, 3, 4
New Testament: 1 Peter 3
Thoughts from today’s reading
Songs of Solomon 3:1-4. This book of poetry depicts the love between a Bride and Groom. We are the Bride of Christ and should seek Him with all our heart just like the Bride in this book has done. She rose up at night to seek for her Groom, so we should be watching and praying at all times seeking the return of Christ, but the scripture encourages us to do this more in the season that is described as night. If you remember the story of the ten bridesmaid, the Groom came at midnight. Let us become used to using the nighttime to seek the Lord.
1 Peter 3:7. God has respect for the unity of human beings especially when they come together in faith and prayer. This is why He shows up personally wherever two or three are gathered together. There is no better place to display the power of agreement in faith and prayer than in a marriage relationship. This is why it is so important for husband and wife to be at peace with each other. In fact, the scripture tells us that if they have issues between them, it will actually hinder their prayers.
Prayer
1. Lord, I yield my heart and affections to you all over again. May I continually hunger and thirst for your presence and seek your face with all my heart continually. You have poured out your love into my heart so I choose to follow you and love you with all my being. Thank you that my communion with you makes all that is in my life come alive so that I can live my life to its fullest.
2. Father, you have shown us how important unity is in your eyes. We pray that we not only acknowledge this mentally, but that we act on staying in unity with our family, friends and neighbours. We pray especially for couples, husband and wife, that they will find the patience and understanding to work out their differences and get back into the place of unity so their prayers are not hindered. We pray that you open our eyes to connect with the right people who will join hearts and faith with us to establish God’s promises for our lives. Thank you Father for answering our prayers in Jesus’ name, amen.
