Reading for today
Old Testament: Isaiah 3, 4, 5
New Testament: 2 Peter 1
Thoughts from today’s reading
Isaiah 5:20-23. These first few chapters of the book of Isaiah address the moral decline of the nation of Israel. It takes a while for a whole society to turn from good to evil and those who push the agenda of evil introduce it little by little until it becomes the norm and everyone begins to adopt what is wrong as right.
2 Peter 1:4-10. We have been given great and precious promises by God which guarantee us a victorious life, however we do still have our part to play in adding virtues revealed by God to ourselves. We have to keep growing in our Christian experience so that we are continually fruitful and can stand and never fail or fall.
Prayer
1. Lord, may we be a standard of good and continually a light in the areas you have placed us. You said we should let our light shine before men that they may see our good works and glorify our Father in heaven. May we be strong to resist evil in our homes, neighbourhoods, communities and nations in Jesus’ name, amen.
2. Lord, we are grateful for all your precious promises that give us a future with a real and tangible hope in this life. Father, we choose the path of growth and take on all the virtues you have made available to us. Teach us to add these virtues into our lives daily, knowledge, temperance, patience, godliness, brotherly kindness and love. Thank you that our reward for doing this is fruitfulness and strength to never fall.
