Reading for today
Old Testament: Isaiah 6, 7, 8
New Testament: 2 Peter 2
Thoughts from today’s reading
Isaiah 8:16-18. When we wait upon the Lord, keeping His commandments and hoping in Him, then He will make us signs and wonders among the nations. This means that in the confusion and darkness of the nations, we will stand out as solutions and light among them.
2 Peter 2:1-3. The scripture warns us to beware of false teachers letting us know that as there were false prophets in days of old, so there will be in our days. People like Balaam the prophet who gave their prophesies to the highest bidders and were covetous of financial gain. We will escape their influences by holding on to the truth of the word of God, reading it for ourselves and receiving the revelation of it from the Spirit of God.
Prayer
1. Lord, we wait upon you this day in your word and in prayer, trusting you to reveal to us great and mighty things that have not yet been revealed on the earth. Thank you for making us light in the world and salt in the earth, where we are signs and wonders to bring solutions to the nations. Lord, we trust you that our children also will be used by you to bring the knowledge of God to their generation.
2. O Lord, we ask that you deliver us from the deception of false teachers and prophets. May our hearts be free of covetousness, greed, pride and all the vices that can trap us and make us seek answers by taking shortcuts. We commit ourselves to the truth of your word that delivers us from unrighteousness. Thank you for the help of your Holy Spirit who will keep leading us in the love of the truth exposing that which is false.
