Reading for today
Old Testament: Jeremiah 18, 19, 20
New Testament: Revelation 17
Thoughts from today’s reading
Jeremiah 20:9-11. Sometimes the message God has given us to speak is not one that people may find palatable and it would bring on their criticism and even hatred. If we refuse to speak, that word will not be supressed in us but will be like fire in our bones. We should take comfort in the fact that the Lord will never leave our side and will fight for us because we carry His word.
Revelation 17:6-8. Apostle John who was given this revelation of the woman on the beast was greatly marvelled at her before the angel caught his attention for him to question his heart. Such is the lure and power of the world system to suck us into it. Those who have not received salvation will marvel and be carried away by the influence of the woman and the beast.
Prayer
1. Father, may your word continually burn like fire in our bones so that we do not become complacent to fulfil the great commission you have called us to which is to go into all the world and preach the good news of Jesus Christ. We also thank you that in every place where men resist this message and even plot to harm the ones you have sent, that you Lord will rise up and be a mighty defence to protect your own and cause their words to be filled with signs, wonders and miracles in the name of your Holy Son, Jesus Christ.
2. Lord Jesus, you warned us not to love the world or the things that are in the world as the love of the world squeezes out the love of God. May your Holy Spirit check our hearts and question our motives when we are drawn towards the things that contradict the life of Christ. We thank you that our names are written in your book of life, and so we will escape every lure and temptation that seeks to entangle us.
