Reading Today
Old Testament: Genesis 1, 2, 3
New Testament: Matthew 1
Thoughts from today’s reading
In Genesis 1 we see God creating by His spoken word, evening and morning everyday. Why did he do it daily? It struck me that the all powerful God could have just spoken it in existence in one day.
In creating the earth for man it seems God was setting a precedent for man to be successful on the earth.
He teaches us the following things.
1. Our words are important, our words will create. 2. We will be bound by time, so God teaches us the power of managing time daily.
3. There is a time for everything, in the evening He spoke what he wanted to see.
4. He repeated the cycle daily for 6 days teaching us the importance of a routine.
5. He expressed His nature to create each day as He is the Creator, teaching us the power of our gifts and habits that express those gifts.
In Genesis 2, God comes to look for Adam in the evening, this would have most likely have been the time that He came to fellowship with man daily. On this day Adam was not at the appointed place, this made God call out for him. Sin had come in the picture and destroyed a routine of meeting with God.
Prayer
1. Pray that you will yield to the nature of God in you to speak life to your situations and not careless words that bring death.
2. Pray for the grace to use your time wisely in all situations.
3. Ask for the wisdom to follow the right routine to meet with God in prayer and worship, read the word, spend time with family, do your work or business, etc.
4. Ask that whatever gifts God has placed in you that you are unaware of will be revealed to you.
Thank God for defeating sin and the devil through Jesus Christ and giving us the chance to live an abundant life again.
Gen 3:21 – Amidst all the good things created, I saw the nurturing character of God in this verse. Even though Adam and Eve had disobeyed Him, when God saw their vulnerability and made them coats. To me that is the heart of a father.
