Reading for today
Old Testament: Genesis 43, 44, 45
New Testament: Matthew 15
Thoughts from today’s reading
Genesis 45:16-18. When Pharaoh heard that Joseph’s brothers had come, he was pleased and extended his hospitality to them.
It seems Joseph never spoke ill of his brothers to anyone, for had he done so, the Egyptians may not have been as receptive to them. Even when Joseph told the Butler to help him, he did not mention what his brothers did.
Matthew 15:21-28. It seemed quite harsh the way this woman was treated, but she was more concerned about her daughter getting healed than how she was being treated. This great love for her child is possibly responsible for the tenacity of her faith. God allows us to go through tests and watches our response to it whether we will keep believing or if we will get offended and walk away.
Prayers
- Father, help me to forgive those who have hurt me the way you forgave me through Jesus Christ. May I always practice restraint in talking negatively about them but rather pray for them. Thank you that you make all things work together for my good and you turn every difficult situation around for my victory.
- Father I pray that the attitude which was in Christ will be in me also, for he humbled himself in the face of unjust oppositions and went through suffering that He might pay the price for my redemption. May I walk in this same love and be willing to humble myself for the sake of others who need salvation.
“And Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Say to your brothers, ‘Do this: Load your animals and depart; go to the land of Canaan. Bring your father and your households and come to me; I will give you the best of the land of Egypt, and you will eat the fat of the land.”
Genesis 45:17-18 NKJV
See how much favour Joseph had found in the eyes of Pharaoh because of the spirit of God on him. This can only be cultivated by one who is constantly in the secret place with God. I pray we are so full of God that we find such favour wherever we go
