Reading for today
Old Testament: Exodus 5, 6, 7
New Testament: Matthew 19
Thoughts from today’s reading
Exodus 5. The work of deliverance always causes a tighter grip of the enemy when he has been served notice to leave. This was what Pharaoh was trying to do to discourage the Israelites from entertaining the thoughts of freedom.
Exodus 7:8-13. We see here that God started displaying miraculous signs that the magicians of Egypt were also able to do.
God has no problem starting from where man is and then shows them that He can do much more than we are able to imagine.
Exodus 7:24. All the rivers and sources of water in their home were turned to blood, however they were able to dig around the river and get water to drink.
Even in God’s judgements on Egypt, we see a glimmer of His mercies.
Matthew 19:4-6. This is one of the 10 times recorded where Jesus challenged the people about reading the scriptures. He expected the Jews to keep the book of the law before their eyes as this would lead to accurate understanding of the mind of God.
Prayers
1. Thank you Father that your light shines in darkness and the darkness is not able to overcome it. I receive strength to stand against the oppositions of the enemy to the will of God for my life.
2. Father, you are able to replicate everything the world can do and surpass it. In all areas of our lives wherever we are put in competition against the world, grant us wisdom and results that far exceed what they are able to do.
3. We pray for your mercies on those who do not know you Lord and that your goodness will bring them to repentance in Jesus name.
4. Lord, grant me the continued discipline to abide in your word. Let the desire for your word surpass the desire for my daily food.
