Reading for today
Old Testament: Numbers 31, 32, 33
New Testament: Luke 6
Thoughts from today’s reading
Numbers 31:7-16. The Israelites fought against Midian and Balaam the prophet was killed in that battle. Moses reveals here that Balaam was responsible for encouraging the Midianites to entice the children of Israel to sin. The strategy of Balaam is very much alive today and Jesus in the book of Revelation instructs the church not to be susceptible to the wiles of Balaam (Revelation 2:12-17)
Numbers 32. God had promised the children of Israel a land flowing with milk and honey, and each of the tribes were to have an inheritance in that land. As they came to the borders of the land, 3 of the tribes were convinced that this part of the land was their inheritance due to its ability to sustain the work of their hands as herdsmen. Even though Moses was not convinced, they stood their ground and eventually they were granted the land to occupy it.
We have an inheritance in Christ that only we can recognise. The promises of God are for the church but also for the members in particular. What is that part that is yours? Only you can receive it by the help of the Holy Spirit.
Luke 6:17-19. The scripture says that Jesus came down from the mountain where He had prayed and then chosen the Apostles. He then stood on a level place with the Apostles, Disciples and the multitude of people who He ministered to and healed them by the power of God.
He did not stand above them, He stood with them. Jesus is signifying that He came to where we are so that we can benefit from Him, but most importantly be like Him. He wanted the Apostles, Disciples and multitude to have the same access to Him.
Prayer
1. Lord Jesus, thank you for revealing the wiles of the enemy and giving us the power to overcome them. We pray that every systematic teaching of the spirit of Balaam will be exposed and removed from your church. Help us to repent and return to you wherever we have been subject to this error.
2. Thank you Lord that you came so that we can be like you and that each and every one that is called by your name can access you. I thank you that you stand in a live place where I can see and understand what you want to do in my life.
