Reading for today
Old Testament: Deuteronomy 28, 29, 30
New Testament: Luke 17
Thoughts from today’s reading
Deuteronomy 28. This Chapter highlights all the areas that God gives His blessing to His people when they walk in obedience to His covenant. We also see all the ways that the curse affects the disobedient.
Deuteronomy 30:15-20. God gives us choices to make and what we choose determine the consequences that follow. He will never force us to choose what He wants as He will not violate our freewill. However, when God gives us choices He recommends to us what we should choose.
A child of God should never be confused about the right choices to make as God is very eager to give us the best advice for what we must do.
Luke 17:11-19. These lepers cried out for mercy, and Jesus heard them and gave them a word to turn their situation around. They still had to act in faith on the word, because the instruction to go and show yourself to the priest was for those who had been cleansed from leprosy as we saw in the book of Leviticus. As they obeyed the word and went, they received their healing. The one that came back to give thanks, also received complete restoration.
We should remember to pray, act in faith and then give thanks for all requests we make to God.
Prayer
1. Heavenly Father thank you for all the blessings you revealed to us through the covenant we have with you. As you place before me the choice between blessing and cursing, life and death, I choose what you recommend which is blessing and life. I choose to follow the way of Christ and the promptings of the Holy Spirit. Thank you for helping me make the right decisions in Jesus name.
2. I thank you Jesus for mercy that hears and heals. As you give me your word regarding the requests I have made to you, I step out in faith to do that word and I give you thanks because before I called you answered, while I was speaking, you heard me. Thank you Lord that it is done in Jesus’ name. Amen.
