Reading for today
Old Testament: Joshua 18, 19, 20
New Testament: John 1
Thoughts from today’s reading
Joshua 19:49-51. Joshua the leader of Israel ensured that all the people had received their inheritance. The people then in turn gave him an inheritance.
True leadership will always put the peoples interest in front of personal interest. Such a heart is one that God desires to set over His people.
John 1:1-5. The word of God that created everything is the same word of God that gave us life. The life given to us is described as light and it shines in darkness which cannot overcome the light. Our light will shine before all men that they may see our good works and glorify God in heaven.
Prayer
1. Father we pray for our leaders that they will have the heart of service that puts the interest of the people they oversee in front of their personal interests. We pray that you give us spiritual leaders, market place leaders, community leaders and national leaders that have the heart of a shepherd , that they will watch and care for the sheep. We ask this in Jesus’ name.
2. Thank you Lord for the life you have given us which like light overcomes darkness. We declare in this season that our light shines in the darkness of pestilences and we overcome. Our light shines in the darkness of economic lockdown and we overcome. Our light shines in the darkness of depression and despair and we overcome. Our light shines in the darkness of uncertainty and we overcome. You came that we may have an abundance of life, so we say that our ability to overcome anything that we face is abundant also. Thank you Lord in Jesus’ name.
