Day 72

Reading for today
Old Testament: Judges 3, 4, 5
New Testament: John 4

Thoughts from today’s reading
Judges 4:4-9. Deborah had given Barak the word of the Lord that said the army of Sisera would be given into his hand. He however wanted more assurances and said he would not go unless Deborah went with him. She then told him that the glory of the battle would not be his. This must have been because he did not fully rely on the word God had given and instead took part confidence in the prophetess rather than putting full confidence in God alone.
We must be careful to take the word of the Lord from whoever has spoken it and run with it for ourselves and not allow the trust we should have in God to be shared with the vessel God had spoken through no matter how powerful they may seem.

John 4:27-38. Jesus likened doing the will of God to having food to eat. He also likened winning of souls to God as a field full of crops that are ready to be harvested and if we look at the fields, the harvest is ready now.
We get strength and sustenance from carrying out God’s purpose for our lives. Our souls will always be better for doing God’s will just like our bodies will be healthier for eating food. It is God’s will that all men should be saved, so going about this business is important for the health of our spirit and soul, and it has ramifications for this life and eternity.

Prayer
1. Father thank you that your word is powerful enough to accomplish what it has said and does not need anything else added to it. I put my full trust in the word that you have spoken to me, I thank you for any of your vessels that you used to bring a clear and precise word for my victory, but I will not look to them for the fulfilment of the word, but will wholly trust you Lord.
2. Lord may our eyes be opened to fully comprehend your will for us right now. You said the fields are ready for harvest right now, may you send us your labourers out into this harvest. We trust you for all that we need to effectively harvest your field of souls and bring many to eternal life. Thank you Father in Jesus’ name. Amen.
