Day 109

Reading for today
Old Testament: 2 Kings 12, 13, 14
New Testament: Acts 20

Thoughts from today’s reading
2 Kings 14:8-14. Amaziah experienced victory against the Edomites by the help of the Lord, but he was then lifted up with pride and thought he could fight and defeat Jehoash the king of Israel, this led to the downfall of his kingdom in Judah.
This reminds us that pride always goes before a fall.

Acts 20:28-32. Apostle Paul reminds the church elders that God took them from among the believers to be overseers of the church which Christ bought with His own blood. He commends them to continue in the word which is able to build up the church and give us our inheritance in Christ.

Prayer
1. Heavenly Father, wherever there is pride in my heart, may it be exposed by your Holy Spirit and may I find the grace to repent of it and walk in humility towards God and my fellow man. I know that pride has the ability to destroy whatever I have built, I ask therefore that by your word you build me up in sincerity and truth in Jesus name, amen.
2. Lord Jesus, you paid for the church with your own blood to redeem us a holy people for yourself. As one who you have chosen to lead others in the church, I lean on your word and your grace to build me up to walk in wisdom, humility and truth towards others. May we together as a church receive all the benefits of our great inheritance of eternal life through Jesus Christ, amen.
