Reading for today
Old Testament: 1 Chronicles 8, 9, 10
New Testament: Acts 27
Thoughts from today’s reading
1 Chronicles 9:26-27. The Levites who functioned as gate keepers for the House of God all ensured that they had lodgings close to the tabernacle so that they would be in good proximity to be ready to carry out their duties promptly.
We should aim to be as close as possible to the place of our responsibility so that we are able to serve promptly and effectively.
Acts 27:21-26. In the midst of the tempest that had covered the ship for many days, apostle Paul had taken time to fast and pray. While waiting on God, an angel was sent to him to confirm Jesus’ word that he would get to Rome and stand before Caesar and that all on the ship would be saved. Paul believed this word and declared it to everyone on the ship.
When the sailors wanted to escape the ship, he reminded them of the word. Also, when the soldiers wanted to kill the prisoners, he reminded them of the word. God’s word to Paul was fulfilled and all on the ship were saved.
Prayer
1. Heavenly Father, may we always make our important choices and decisions on the basis of the life responsibilities you have given us. We pray that faithfulness and dedication will be a mark of our service to God in Jesus’ name.
2. Lord thank you that your word is powerful and overcomes every storm of life. May we be quick to get into a place of consecration to seek your face when we run in danger and may we act on the assurances you have given us in your word till we see your safety manifested in our situation.
