Reading for today
Old Testament: Psalm 78, 79, 80
New Testament: 1 Thessalonians 4
Thoughts from today’s reading
Psalm 78:9-11. It is possible to be well equipped for a battle yet turn back in fear or defeat. This happens when we forget our covenant with God and His purpose for our lives. In anything we hope to achieve, our minds must be fixed on God and all that He has done, is doing, and will yet do.
1 Thessalonians 4:3-8. The Lord has given us the responsibility to possess our own bodies, that is, to be in control of what we do in spite of strong desires that drive us to lust, immorality, or any form of uncleanness. He has also given us His Holy Spirit to help us in our task to maintain a clean, righteous and holy life.
Prayer
1. Heavenly Father, I pray for a steadfast heart to hold onto your word and promises for my life. May I not give in to fear, laziness, an indifferent heart or carelessness when I need to fulfil my life’s purpose. I receive strength and boldness to face my responsibilities in my health, home, family, ministry, finances, work, business, and community.
2. Lord, I thank you for giving me your Holy Spirit who is able to remind me of the things Jesus said and strengthen me in my resolve against sin. I say that I will not yield my body to fulfil lust, anger, jealousy, strife, greed or sexual immorality. I say that I will possess my own body and keep it as a clean vessel prepared for the masters use. Thank you for grace Lord to do this in Jesus’ name, amen.
