Reading for today
Old Testament: Psalm 81, 82, 83
New Testament: 1 Thessalonians 5
Thoughts from today’s reading
Psalms 82. We are made in the image of God and He therefore calls us gods. He expects the ones created in His image to walk in understanding and to judge justly, defend the poor and fatherless, delivering them from the hand of the wicked. When we do not do these things we are operating as men who will fall.
1 Thessalonians 5:1-11. We are reminded that the Day of the Lord is coming. It will come like a thief in the night and take the world unawares, but the believer who walks in the light will not be taken unawares. Jesus said we should keep watch and pray that we may be ready. There should be no fear for the believer on the judgement which God will bring to the earth.
Prayer
1. Father, you have created us and called us to have dominion in the earth as children of the Most High God. May we walk in your knowledge and principles so that we judge justly in every situation we find ourselves. May we not be tempted to operate without understanding thereby oppressing others instead of helping them. Thank you Lord that we will continue to operate in the divine nature through Jesus Christ our Lord.
2. Thank you Lord Jesus that you have shown us how we can be prepared for the Day of the Lord. Thank you for grace to keep watching and praying, as we put on the breastplate of faith and love, and we keep our minds on your salvation. Thank you that we have escaped the wrath to come because you have appointed us for salvation. We give you the praise.
