Reading for today
Old Testament: Psalm 111, 112, 113
New Testament: 2 Timothy 1
Thoughts from today’s reading
Psalm 111:2-6. The works of the Lord are wonderful, and if we find pleasure in them, we should study them. The more we look at what He has done, the more we learn of what He has done, and the more we will see Him do even more. Our response to discovering the work of God should be one of praise and thanksgiving.
2 Timothy 1:5-7. Genuine faith is passed on from generation to generation. It is important that we are sincere and unhypocritical in our pursuit of God, as this attitude will not go unnoticed by our children and others we have influence with. Faith is communicable, and so will affect those in close proximity to us.
Prayer
1. Lord, we take the time to study your works in our world in general and in our lives in particular. Your works like the mountains, the rivers, the air we breathe and the creatures you made are wonderful. We see patterns of your goodness and mighty power. Father, we see how all our body systems work seamlessly so that we live strong and healthy lives. We see your great mercy to preserve us in the midst of so many dangers in our world. How awesome are your works O Lord, which you have made with great wisdom. We praise you for all that you have done and for the covenant you establish with us through our Lord Jesus Christ.
2. Lord Jesus, as I follow you, I choose to do so from a heart of sincerity and truth. In anyway I may be acting hypocritically, I pray that you reveal it to me by your Spirit. I ask for grace to change where I am walking in error. I pray that my life will be a good example of faith in Jesus Christ to my children, work colleagues, friends and all I have influence with. I stir up your gifts in my life which are pure, so that I am enabled to live in a way that fully pleases you. Thank you for answering this prayer, amen.
