Reading for today
Old Testament: Psalm 114, 115. 116
New Testament: 2 Timothy 2
Thoughts from today’s reading
Psalm 116:8-11. The Lord’s deliverance touches different aspects of our lives to make us completely free. He delivers the soul from what it experiences, He delivers the eyes from what it sees, and He delivers the feet from where it goes.
2 Timothy 2:2-7. We are reminded that we are soldiers of Jesus Christ. We are in a war and must therefore not get distracted by the things of this life. We must understand God’s rules that guide our race here on earth so that we win the prize that He has already reserved for us.
Prayer
1. O Lord, you are most gracious and merciful. We thank you for being our great deliverer, the one that saves us to the uttermost. Father, wherever our soul is in trouble and gripped by the pangs of death, we are reminded that Jesus came to give us life and abolish death. Wherever our eyes are filled with tears because of what we have seen, we ask that you wipe away all our tears by the comfort of your Holy Spirit. Wherever our feet are falling, we ask that you lift us up by the hands of your angels who you have given a charge concerning us. Thank you Lord for you are ever faithful to keep us and we give you all the praise.
2. Lord Jesus, you are our commander-in-chief and the one who has appointed us into the army of the Lord. You lead us in triumph such that as we follow you into battle, victory is guaranteed every time. We ask that wherever we have become distracted and caught up with the affairs of this life, that you will open our eyes to see our complacency. Lord we refocus on your kingdom agenda by daily reading your word, practicing it, praying and being obedient to what you instruct by your Spirit. This we pray in your name, amen.
