Reading for today
Old Testament: Psalm 117, 118, 119
New Testament: 2 Timothy 3
Thoughts from today’s reading
Psalm 119:9-16. The way to purity in our thoughts and actions is to keep the word of God in our mind, mouth and meditation. We should memorise Gods word to keep it in our mind, we should speak Gods word to keep it in our mouth, and we should imagine how we act on Gods word to keep it in our meditation.
2 Timothy 3. In the last days perilous times will come and the sign of those times will be the negative attitudes of men which will all be contrary to the character the word of God advises for man. The only way we can be victorious in those times is to continue in the word of God which we have learnt, relying on the Holy Spirit to instruct us on how to live.
Prayer
1. Father, we commit our lives to you and we thank you for giving us your word as a purifying agent giving us victory over sins which seek to beset us. Thank you that as we keep your word in our mind, mouth and meditation, our ways are made straight, and we will not stumble through life, but will walk surely and accomplish great things in your name.
2. Lord Jesus, you have sent your Holy Spirit to reveal your word to us. We pray that as the days get perilous, that we are constantly reminded of your truth which delivers us. We cast off every attitude that is defiant against God, and we clothe ourselves with the fruits of righteousness, faith, patience, love, goodness and peace. Thank you Lord that as we observe and do your word, we will experience a lifting even in times when things are falling apart.
