Day 283

Reading for today
Old Testament: Hosea 7, 8, 9, 10

Thoughts from today’s reading
Hosea 10:12. Doing the right thing is likened to sowing seed, but we must always prepare the ground before we can sow the seed. Jesus revealed to us through His parables, that the ground is the state of our heart (Matthew 13:18-23). Our actions are only fruitful when they are done from a heart that is prepared. We also see in James 3:13-18, that it requires wisdom to sow the fruit of righteousness. So, God will give us wisdom when we ask, and we can then prepare our hearts to do what is right and reap the results of our actions.

Prayer
1. Heavenly Father, we come to you today to receive wisdom that you give freely, for we know that your wisdom leads us in the paths of life and what is right. Lord, may your wisdom show us the areas of our heart which need to be ploughed and prepared to support the actions that are right for us to take right now. Wherever there is fear to do the right thing, or lusts to do the wrong thing, we receive strength to overcome these and cast them out of our heart and mind. We remind ourselves that what we sow is what we will reap and therefore take responsibility today to do the right thing without fear or favour. Thank you for your wisdom and your strength today and always.
