Reading for today
Old Testament: Amos 2, 3, 4, 5
Thoughts from today’s reading
Amos 3:3-8. Can two work together unless they are agreed? This is the question the Lord asks the people of Israel. He made a covenant with them which is an agreement with the understanding that He would be their God and they would be His people. The nature of this agreement had blessings for obeying and curses for disobeying, and the terms and conditions were acknowledged and signed up to by the children of Israel. The prophecies declaring the judgement that would be executed upon Israel were only stating things that they had agreed would happen to them if they disobeyed Him, and because they were still His covenant partners, He had to reveal these judgments to one of the prophets of Israel.
Prayer
1. Lord, we give you thanks that we have a new covenant with you. You are our God and we are your people. We walk in absolute agreement with you because you have put your Spirit in our hearts. We will not walk in disobedience as long as we remain in Christ who can never fail. Thank you Lord for revealing your secrets to us your sons and daughters who you have made heirs of the kingdom of God, and we continually say, your kingdom come and your will be done here on earth as it is in heaven.
