Reading for today
Old Testament: Leviticus 16, 17, 18
New Testament: Mark 8
Thoughts from today’s reading
Leviticus 17:11-14. The life of all flesh is in the blood. The blood sustains life, this is true from a natural perspective, but more importantly from a spiritual perspective.
We are sustained in eternal life because of the blood of Jesus Christ which is an eternal blood that still cries out for mercy over mankind.
Mark 8:22-26. The people had seen Jesus heal the blind by touching them, and so they asked him to heal this blind man the same way, but Jesus used a different way to heal the man.
We must never forget that God works with everyone as an individual. Just because it worked for a person one way does not mean that is the same way God will use for you. The only constant thing is faith in God, how and when He comes through is up to Him, but our assurance is that He will come through for us.
Mark 8:34-38. These verses are a reminder that we gave up our life to take on the life of Christ. We cannot therefore be attached to the world and its ways of comfort at the expense of our commitment to Christ.
Prayer
1. Heavenly Father, I thank you for the blood of Jesus that speaks mercy over me. You said I can come boldly to your throne to obtain this mercy to help me in a time of need. I receive mercy today that preserves me from every evil that seeks to consume me.
2. Lord Jesus, may our faith stand in you and your word and never on any methods that we have seen. Your ways are past finding out and you can solve any problem in numerous ways. Let our focus always be on you and not on how the solution will come.
