Reading for today
Old Testament: Numbers 1, 2 ,3
New Testament: Mark 12
Thoughts from today’s reading
Numbers 3:14-51. The book of Numbers gives us an idea of how the Israelites organised themselves in the wilderness. We also see that God chose the tribe of Levi to be priests and to represent the first born of each family in Israel to God.
It was always Gods intention for every man to minister to Him as the priests did, but sin was the hinderance. Christ coming has actually made those who believe in Him to be a nation of priests to God.
Mark 12:24-27. Jesus mentioned the importance of reading the scriptures twice in this chapter. He said we would be mistaken or deceived if we do not know the scriptures, He also linked the knowledge of scripture and the power of God.
Mark 12:41-44. Jesus was interested in how people were giving and it was not about the amount of money being given, but the sacrifice being made.
Giving that touches God is when we give of our livelihood. If one had some money to buy a meal or to pay a transport fare and instead decided to give that to the poor or to the work of a mission, at that moment they have given of their livelihood. Such giving really please God.
Prayer
1. Heavenly Father, I thank you that I am a royal priesthood and a holy nation to offer up sacrifices of praise well pleasing to God. I thank you that you hear my intercessions for those that do not know you and you have made me like the salt of the earth or the light in my world to make a difference and bring many lives to the knowledge of the truth.
2. Lord I pray that my giving will come from a place of love and sacrifice as I share what I own with my family, friends, the poor, the church and other kingdom related projects. Let every gift be a sweet smelling sacrifice to you and may it be of great benefit to those who receive it.
