Reading for today
Old Testament: Numbers 25, 26, 27
New Testament: Luke 4
Thoughts from today’s reading
Numbers 25. The Israelites were not aware that the people of Moab had been trying to curse them to bring them down and destroy them, but were unsuccessful at doing this. They then took the age old approach of the devil by getting the Israelites to sin for themselves and then bear the consequences of it. The enticement to sexual sin and the worship of Moabite gods was meant to weaken Israel so that their enemies could overcome them. The purging that was carried out by the judges was necessary to preserve the whole nation from becoming corrupted.
Numbers 27. The daughters of Zelophehad spoke up for what was right in preserving the inheritance of their father. This led to an amendment of the laws concerning inheritance by the instruction of God.
Women should always allow their voice to be heard for what is right and God will honour it.
Luke 4:16-37. Jesus came to His own people, but they rejected His claims and were offended by Him to the point that they were about to kill Him. He did not allow this rejection to stop Him but He went on to the next city and preached the kingdom of God healing and delivering many of their afflictions.
Prayer
1. Father I pray for a spirit of discernment to know when the enemy is conspiring with men, situations and lusts to bring me into a snare to stop me from enjoying your blessing upon my life. Wherever I have been deceived and have compromised, I ask for your mercy to bring me out of it and restore me to right standing with you in Jesus name.
2. Lord I pray for strength to go forward in the face of rejection. Jesus you said if they rejected you, they would reject your people also. May I not be shaken by rejection but rather go forward with your power in me to continue the assignment that you have given me.
