Day 51

Reading for today

Old Testament: Numbers 34, 35, 36
New Testament: Luke 7

Thoughts from today’s reading
Numbers 35. The cities that were to be given to the Levites, who were the priests, would have some parts allocated as a city of refuge where those who had committed murder by accident were able to hide. The blood of man always cries out for vengeance and releases the avenger of blood to pursue the accused.
On the contrary, the blood of Christ cries out for mercy and releases us from all accusations, that is why we need to stay hidden in Christ our refuge.
Numbers 36:6. A woman has the power of accepting the man to marry. This comes about as a result of her doing some thinking and reaching a conclusion about who is best for her and who she is best for. It is not a decision based on emotion.
In Christ we are free to marry only those from our Father’s family, that is, a fellow believer.

Luke 7:18-28. John the Baptist was the one who first announced Jesus as the Messiah when he baptised him at the Jordan river. But for some reason we see John sending his disciples to ask Jesus a question publicly that could put his ministry in doubt in the minds of the people. Jesus answers politely and even again validates the ministry of John the Baptist to the people. He does however reveal that John question could have come from a place of offence in verse 23. This could possibly be because Jesus did not use His influence to help him to get out of Herod’s prison.
We should not get to the place where we are offended with God for not fulfilling a word we have believed.

Prayer
1. Thank you Jesus that my life is hidden in Christ, I am therefore free from the avenger of blood who seeks to destroy my life. By the blood of Chris which cries out mercy, I overcome the world and the devil. Thank you that I have victory over every sickness, disease and affliction against man in Jesus name.
2. Lord I hold on to your word even when it doesn’t make sense and it looks like nothing is happening. You are not a man that would lie and if You speak a thing, you will surely bring it to pass, for your word will not return back to you without fulfilling what you sent it for. Thank you that even when I am faithless, you remain faithful and restore me to the place where I can believe again.
