Day 60

Reading for today
Old Testament: Deuteronomy 25, 26, 27
New Testament: Luke 16

Thoughts from today’s reading
Deuteronomy 25:5-10. This is the law regarding the duty of a brother to marry his sister-in-law in the event of his brothers death. This was what the Sadducee’s made reference to when they tested Jesus with their question about the 7 brothers that married their sister-in-law after each older brother had died.
We also see this law being acted out in the book of Ruth when Boaz spoke of a relative that was supposed to marry Ruth instead of him. When that relative refused, then Boaz was next in line to marry her.
Deuteronomy 26:16-19. The distinction of the Israelites from other nations was the Laws of God. If they observed and did them, they would be above all other nations in everything.
God is the one that created the world and all in it, so if He gives us a path to follow, we can trust that it will lead us to the highest places of honour in the earth. All we have to do is to follow and obey.

Luke 16:1-13. It is clear from scripture that our attitude on how we handle our own money or the resources of others we are working for, reveals how we handle the things of God. If we are slothful in these things, then it is likely we will treat service to God the same way. Remember, Jesus never called anyone who was not doing something meaningful. The one who eventually betrayed him was the one who did not handle the money for their mission faithfully.
Luke 16:19-31. This story is a great reminder that God’s blessings on our life is not for us to consume on ourselves only. There is a greater purpose to life and this is reaching beyond ourselves to help our fellow man. That act of neglecting another in need is one of the sins that landed the rich man in the place of torment.

Prayer

  1. Heavenly Father thank you that your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. You know how all thing work because you created everything. You know the end from the beginning because you live in eternity. You can do anything because you are all powerful. I will trust your commands for they are designed to lead me to a place of praise and honour above all nations of the world.
  2. Lord I thank you that the fruit of the Spirit is in me, therefore I nurture the fruit of faithfulness so that I deal competently with money or other peoples resources. With what you have blessed me with, I will be faithful to serve my fellow man, especially those in need.
