Day 66

Reading for today
Old Testament: Joshua 9, 10, 11
New Testament: Luke 22

Thoughts from today’s reading
Joshua 9:14. In this whole chapter we see that Joshua and the leaders of Israel made a covenant with the people of Gibeon who turned out to be deceiving them. You would have thought that they would have learnt their lesson and sought the Lord before a major decision especially after what happened in Ai. Once the covenant was made though, they had to honour it.
Joshua 10:12-14. The Lord heeded the voice of Joshua and made the sun stand still for about a day so that Israel could fight against the enemies of the Gibeonites who had entered a covenant with Israel by deceit.
God showed how much He honours His word, promises and covenants even to those who seemingly do not deserve it.

Luke 22:7-23. At the time of Passover the lamb had to be killed to commemorate what God did for the children of Israel in Egypt. Jesus then institutes the act of communion to signify Passover for the disciples and eventually for the church that would be born after His resurrection.
When we partake of the communion we are observing Passover through the blood of Jesus the saviour of the world.

Prayer
1. Father I thank you that you honour Your word and you expect us to honour our words also. Jesus said we should let our yes be yes, and our no be no. I pray that the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart will come from the place of your word revealed to me as I take the time to consult you in all affairs of my life daily.
2. Thank you Jesus for being our Passover lamb. As we commemorate your death, burial and resurrection this week, let the power in remembering you be manifested in every part of our life. We eat the bread of your body and drink the wine of your blood in faith, and we receive the life and health for us in your flesh and blood.
