Reading for today
Old Testament: Joshua 15, 16, 17
New Testament: Luke 24
Thoughts from today’s reading
Joshua 17. In this chapter, we see the daughters of Zelophehad asking to take physical possession of what was promised to them while Moses was leading Israel.
Even though we have a promise, we should still be proactive in seeking the manifestation of that promise.
Then we also see the children of Joseph asking for more territory but when they are pointed to the forests, they give excuses about the canaanites there so Joshua had to remind them that they are able to possess that land in spite of the challenges there.
Luke 24:44-48. When Jesus rose from the dead, he appeared to two disciples on the road to Emmaus and explained the scriptures to them from the book of Moses and the Prophets. He later did the same to his eleven closest disciples, He opened their understanding so that they might comprehend the scriptures.
The scriptures are not for private interpretation and the one who inspired it
Prayer
1. Lord thank you for all the precious promises that you have given me. I will rise up in faith and strength to possess that which You have made available through Christ Jesus. Help me to identify my doubts and where I have focussed on difficulties rather than on your assurances to me. I declare that I am strong and well able to take the lands prepared for me.
2. Father we pray according to your word that You will open the eyes of our understanding to comprehend all that You have revealed in the holy scriptures. We trust your Holy Spirit to lead and guide us into all truth so that we may live out your word the way you intended.
