Day 78

Reading for today
Old Testament: Judges 21, Ruth 1, 2
New Testament: John 10

Thoughts from today’s reading
Ruth 2:8-9. Ruth found favour in the field of Boaz and she was instructed to not go to any other field to glean, but always come to his field. Gleaning was allowed in any field and it was a way of leaving food for the poor in Israel, so she could have finished in one field and gone to another to get as much food as she could. She did not allow need or greed to push her to several fields where there may not have been a guarantee of supply.

John 10:7-18. Jesus is the true shepherd, and the shepherd counteracts everything that the thief and robber came to do. The thief came to steal, kill and destroy, but the good Shepherd gives us life that counteracts all that the thief came to do.

Prayer
1. Lord, may we be content with the favour that you give us and be satisfied with where you have placed us. May our need never drive us from the place of favour, and may greed never detract us from your place of purpose for our lives in Jesus name.
2. Jesus we thank you for being our shepherd. Thank you for life, health, provision, protection and sustenance in every way . Thank you that you counteract all that the thief comes to do in our lives, whatever comes to steal joy is judged, whatever comes to kill hope is turned back and whatever comes to destroy dreams is dismantled. Thank you Lord Jesus for your presence with us.
