Day 86

Reading for today
Old Testament: 1 Samuel 20, 21, 22
New Testament: John 18

Thoughts from today’s reading
1 Samuel 20. Jonathan displayed a deep commitment to David even if it meant that the kingdom of Israel which should have come to him would go to David. This was God working through Jonathan to preserve the life of David. Jonathan showed a great understanding of God’s purpose and was more interested in God’s kingdom being established and not his own.

John 18:37-38. Pilate questions Jesus about who He is and why He has been brought to him for judgement. When Jesus says that He was born to bear witness to the truth, Pilate asks what is truth but then walks away to address the crowd without waiting for an answer.
Sometimes we have that experience where the unsaved ask questions about faith but then display a disinterest in whatever our answer might be. Even if they don’t wait to hear of the truth, the truth will speak for itself.

Prayer
1. Heavenly Father, may we grow in the type of faithfulness exemplified in Jonathan as we love one another to the point of laying down our lives for a friend. May we put your kingdom first always even if it means that someone else gets a position that we desired. Let your kingdom come and let your will be done in and through us in Jesus name.
2. Lord help us to bear witness to your truth in season and out of season, when men listen and when they don’t. May we never be ashamed to speak the gospel of Jesus Christ and may we be filled with wisdom to deal with the indifference that the world around us shows. Thank you Lord that your glory will cover the earth as the waters cover the sea.
