Day 92

Reading for today
Old Testament: 2 Samuel 7, 8, 9
New Testament: Acts 3

Thoughts from today’s reading
2 Samuel 9. David did not forget the covenant he made with Jonathan, and as a result of that he sought to bless anyone from the family of Jonathan.
We have a covenant with God through Jesus Christ that guarantees goodness and mercy shall pursue us all our days. Even though Mephiboshet must have felt like he did not deserve the kindness, none of it was based on what he could do, but what the covenant of his father had already secured for him.

Acts 3:1-10. Peter and John heal the lame man at the gate called beautiful. They told him not to expect from them what they did not have (silver and gold), but they gave him what they did have which was healing power in the name of Jesus. Not only did he receive his physical healing, but he also received joy which is a type of emotional healing, and he went on leaping and praising God.
What we have is of much more value that material possessions. The silver and gold could have made the man more comfortable, but he would have been comfortable in disability. The power of Christ transcends money or any physical benefit and gives us joy, peace and contentment such that people will look at us and not understand why we still praise in spite of our constraints.

Prayer
1. Father, thank you that when you look at me, you see your son Jesus Christ and you deal with me on the basis of the covenant you made with him. I thank you that surely goodness and mercy follow me all my days.
2. Lord I give you praise that what I have is more precious than gold. Thank you that I have the name of the Lord which is a strong tower for safety especially in the time of trouble. I call the name of Jesus over my life, over my family, over my work, over my community, over my nation, over my finances and over all that concerns me. Thank you Lord for your great name that you have given to us.
