Reading for today
Old Testament: 2 Samuel 13, 14, 15
New Testament: Acts 5
Thoughts from today’s reading
2 Samuel 15:31-37. David was forced out of Jerusalem because of the conspiracy of his son Absalom. When he heard that one of his advisers, Ahitophel, was with his son, he prayed that his advice would be defeated. Ahitophel’s advice was likened to the counsel of God because of the depth of his wisdom, so his counsel against anyone was as good as sure defeat for them. After David prayed, he saw an opportunity to send back another friend, Hushai, to the palace to monitor what Ahitophel had advised and thus help to defeat his advise.
It’s not enough to pray, we must begin to act on the opportunities God brings our way to take action in faith that will lead to the manifestation of what we have prayed for.
Acts 5:17-32. God delivered the apostles from the prison cell by the hand of an angel, and they came out of a guarded prison without any of the guards noticing.
Angels still work today on behalf of the believer to bring us out of danger so that we can go on and fulfil our assignment to preach the word of God.
Prayer
1. Heavenly Father, I pray to quickly recognise the opportunities you have brought my way to take actions that will lead to the answers of my prayers. I act on your word to add action to my faith as faith without works is dead. Thank you Lord for help to do this in Jesus’ name.
2. Thank you Lord that the angel of the Lord camps around those who fear You to deliver them out of trouble. I declare that in this season I have help by the hand of angels and I am brought out of any areas of captivity without the notice of those who want me imprisoned. I thank you that every barrier to my fulfilling your assignment to preach the gospel is taken out of the way in Jesus’ name.
