Reading for today
Old Testament: 2 Samuel 22, 23, 24
New Testament: Acts 8
Thoughts from today’s reading
2 Samuel 22. We see that David’s songs of praise to God were very instrumental in the battles he fought and the victories he won. He had a deep understanding of how God protects his own as he spent time in the presence of God in worship.
Acts 8:26-40. We see Philip being directed to the desert where he met a man who lacked understanding of the scriptures. As he explained the scriptures to him and he got understanding, they suddenly found water in the desert and he was baptised.
God said he would cause rivers to appear in the desert. It was not just a physical dessert that He provided water for them, but also the desert of a lack of understanding of the scriptures which was supplied with revelation by the preaching of the gospel of Christ.
Prayer
1. Heavenly Father as I praise and worship you, may my eyes be opened to see that the battle is the Lords and the victory is mine through Jesus Christ. Let the praise of God be my default position in every challenge I face in life. May complaints be far from my vocabulary and may I always make that conscious choice to bring you the sacrifice of praise even when I don’t feel like. Thank you Father in Jesus’ name.
2. Lord I pray that wherever I am in a desert physical or spiritual, that you will send helpers my way who will bring revelation of the good news you declare through Jesus Christ. May I also be a sent one and a messenger that brings hope to the hopeless and help to the helpless in Jesus’ name. Amen.
